Research Simulation

The topic I have chosen for the research simulation is multi-age care.  I would like to find out if grouping children by age, the way it is done in the public school system, is really the most effective way to teach young children.  I have often seen children learn new concepts and master new skills by watching other, typically older, children at play.  I have also seen older children learn valuable lessons from being in an environment with younger children; patience, self reliance, and empathy among them.  So my very broad research idea is to discover whether multi-age care is more or less beneficial for children than age-grouped care.

From reading the text this week I have been made aware that my idea is way to broad.  The problem is I have not decided how best to narrow it down.  As explained in the text, I am one of those people who wants to find answers to big questions seeing little value in answering part of the question.  I also know that without narrowing down my question I would quickly become overwhelmed with the research.  Any ideas on how I can narrow down my research idea and still feel like it is something of value?
