Communication

I do communicate differently with different groups of people.  When I am at work I am more professional, I do not use slang or curse, I stand up when talking with parents, and I ask alot of clarifying questions.  When I am talking with friends I am more relaxed, not as careful in my choice of words, and much more (probably too much more) free to give my opinion.  Even within this "classroom" I/we communicate differently.  The discussion board is more formal, the blogs somewhat relaxed.

  1. I agree, I act differently with family and friends than I do with colleagues and families I work with. I think its part of being professional and courteous. I too feel more relaxed with the blogs than I do the discussion board, I hadn't really thought about it until this week.

  2. Sarah,

I must say that I agree with you. It just comes natural for some when talking with parents, colleagues people in public we hold a more professional stance but with friends and family we have that opportunity of being laid back and relaxed.

  3. Sarah,
I feel that everyone communicates differently on some level depending on what is going on in the room and who is present. One interesting example of this happened this fall when a friend of mine held an open house for some political candidates. The room was a mix of political candidates, neighbors, and friends who have know each other for years. It was very interesting watching the people communicate with each other because they were not entirely sure how it should take place. Were they being asked to be themselves and casual or were they asked to communicate on a more professional level. In all it was a great event and gathering, just very interesting to observe from a communication point of view.
