The Early Childhood Development Virtual University (ECDVU) in a training program for teachers who work in early childhood programs in Africa.  The university meets the needs of the teachers in Africa by offering many ways to get instruction including, “residential seminars, web-based instruction, CD-Rom and print material support, and a 'community of learners' strategy within and among cohort countries” (http://www.ecdvu.org/ssa/index.php).

The ECDVU encourages learners to work within their communities to help address early childhood issues throughout Africa.  They do this through a generative approach, that I though was very interesting.  This approach creates communities of professionals that work together in their communities as well as networking across cultures and countries.

I was surprised to find that much of the information on this site has not been updated in several years.  I am sure there have been new theories and researcher being done, but either I could not find it, or the university has not posted it.  All of the pages I viewed, with the exception of the homepage, have not been updated since August 2007.
